Edy's Slow Churned Neighborhood Salute Contest Winner - Kathryn Reece

Posted on: 2006-09-19

The letter from Edy's:
Congratulations! After reading thousands of letters from people coast to coast telling us why their neighborhood deserves a memorable ice cream block party this summer, we are delitghted to announce that your Edy's Slow churned Neighborhood Salute contest entry has been selected as a grand-prize winner!

The Prize Arrives:
Several weeks ago a party box was sent that had cups, spoons, napkins disposable camera, sign, name tags, ice cream scoops, etc. I received 12 cartons (1.75 quarts each) of Edy's Slow Churned Light Ice Cream on Wednesday. Luckily Rachael Nelson contacted Debbie McGee at work and found out her freezer was almost empty. Janet Gorman suggested the ice cream be served while people return their pool key yesterday evening. Most of the ice cream was served but we did bring home five cartons with very little in them. The Slow Churned Light ice cream was delicious even with less fat!

Kathryn's Entry Letter:
I am happy to be able to let others know of our wonderful caring neighborhood. Our subdivision is a little less than three years old with 90+ homes occupied out of a future total of approximately 550. Our neighbors are special because they recognized the need to help the Katrina victims and organized neighborhood gatherings to make and donate kits for children and adults personal needs.

Our neighbors are caring people that get acquainted and participate in our neighborhood activities: Men's poker night, a ladies evening bridge. Canasta, two bunco groups (we had to divide because of the large turn out), monthly ladies lunch, a monthly morning breakfast, couples golf nights during the summer, men and women's golf leagues, once a year neighborhood garage sale, luau/pool block party in June, Prairie Highlands National Night Out (The first Tuesday Evening in August when the police or fire department visit our neighborhood), couples quarterly wine tasting party (organized by a neighbor), Easter Egg hunt in April along with a neighborhood clean up day, a planned ladies day trip, and more. We enjoy being involved in our neighborhood activities and look forward to our time spent with them.

Our neighbors are helpful. We wouldn't hesitate to ask our neighbors to take care of things while we are away and vice versa.

Our neighbors are friendly. When I take our dog for a walk there is always someone to wave at even a couple of blocks away.

I email a newsletter to all the neighbors and they in turn email me news to post and recommendations for new neighbors that need references for doctors, or companies they have had work for them. This helps everyone out because the ones they refer are as good as they say they are. Our neighbors mean a great deal to us and we are grateful for having moved to Prairie Highlands in Olathe, KS
